This morning’s worship time was enhanced because of the encouragement of several of our church members who conversed with me. Two told me they had written reviews for It’s a God Thing! on the Amazon site. They are amazing, and so welcome. Another told me he wants me to publish the promised Jobs Loss book because he’s going through the experience of recent forced retirement. He also told me he’s enjoyed reading my blog. That was an encouragement. Then, the sermon once again urged us to commit our talents to God’s work, which I have done with my writing, and continue to promise each day. Finally, there is great evidence of answered prayer in the welcoming of a dozen new church members this morning, and rejoicing at improving health for some whose lives were in jeopardy this week.
I can only imagine Paul’s distress at being away from those who could encourage his faith when he was journeying or sitting in prison. It is such an encouragement to be with Christ’s people. It was even sweeter for me this morning, since last week I was at the writers’ conference and missed church for the first time in years. It was good to be home again this Lord’s day, and I am indeed encouraged by the faith of my friends. The verse reads: “I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong–that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” (Romans 1:11-12)
