With flaming tongues You anointed them
Your disciples, witnesses, that Pentecost day.
Like sheep abandoned, with no shepherd, no hope
They huddled, discouraged, in a hidden room
Wondering, bewildered, feeling so alone
After Christ’s ascension to His heavenly home
He promised a Comforter would come one day
They needed that miracle You brought, as do we.
Like a wind, fresh-blowing, You catch their attention
Again signs and wonders they’re blessed to observe
Perhaps there’s a new way to know Jesus’ power
As flames touch their foreheads, new voices they hear.
Yes, God is so with them, they’re filled up with joy
Discouragement leaves, their new mission they see.
And their legacy brings that great miracle to me
Refreshing my soul, launch my new life in You.
Peter speaks to Jerusalem, men hear in their tongues
The story of Jesus, their Savior has come
Amazed, they are baptized, some three thousand strong
Convinced God’s among them, the Spirit reveals
His Power, and opens their hearts to believe.
Throughout new generations, hearts are aflame.
The story’s the same, it continues to bless
Those whom the Spirit encourages to hear.
Peter’s words from the Old Testament prophet Joel,
Tells the Spirit will come to remain for all time
And our daughters and sons will then prophesy
Young men will see visions, old men will dream dreams
And the Spirit will fill us, we’ll see signs on earth
Of God’s promised faithfulness, atonement for sin
Redemption, salvation, for all who will hear
Through all generations, His Spirit God sends.
They arose, commissioned, to spread the Good News
Emboldened, refreshed, with new gifts, and new tongues.
They go to all Nations, proclaiming Christ’s message
Your Power within them, their paths now made clear.
Your church would be built, Christ’s Bride here on earth
And one day, united, all tribes, and all nations
Will worship The Lamb, surrounding His Throne.
And we’ll sing as one: Hallelujah! Amen.
That Spirit moves mountains, frees captives, heals bodies,
Enlightens, encourages, wins battles, brings peace
He admonishes, teaches, gives us New Birth,
Fills us, encourages, inspires, illuminates,
Leads worship, heals the soul-sick, most precious to me:
Opens hearts to believing, winning souls, bringing life,
Through Lord Jesus, our Savior, Son of Man, Son of God
Who death overcame, triumphant to save.
When I face depression, discouragement, loss
This Spirit comes when I need Him the most
Like a still, small voice, He reminds of Your Presence
Very real, always with me, delivering my soul
To the throne room where Jesus intercedes for me still
Holy Spirit I thank You for the blessing You bring
Each day, when I remember to ask You to stay
Enriching my walk, guiding steps every day.
When we are on mountaintops, feeling Your Presence
Your strength overflows, bringing joy and true peace
Rejoicing, enlivened, reborn, and renewed.
You capture our worship, in the Spirit we sing
Though our eyes cannot see and our ears cannot hear
What’s planned for our future, small glimpses we see
Of rapturous splendor in worship You bring,
Hallelujahs we shout, or fall silent in awe.
Anxious mother cries out to You, cradling her child
She relies on Your Presence through the endless dark night
Her groaning and Yours is heard high in the heavens
And ministering angels touch Babe’s feverish brow
She feels Your sure Presence, and silently vows
To thank You forever for Your loving touch.
For she knows You are with her, Your Presence she feels
And testifies to healing through Your answers to prayer.
When in depths of despair the prisoner’s heart pleads
From dungeon’s dark place he’s held captive in fear
No hope of escape, but the walls cannot hold
His spirit when Jesus is finally revealed.
You come in to share the darkness, the shame
With Your Spirit, he’s renewed and born to new life
And Jesus is with him, His presence so real
He’s changed, he’s a new man, because He is Yours.
Your promise is true even in our sleep
Your young men dream dreams, your old men see visions,
In the quiet of the night Your Spirit prompts prayer
Intercession for those who have a great need.
We witness occasions when a whispered quick prayer
Has made a big difference, even miles, oceans away
Because You’re not bound like mere mortals constrained
You go where we can’t on the wings of our prayers.
We thank You and bless You when testimonies come
That angels, or people, or forces unknown
Have stepped in the gap and provided Your power,
When we know it’s Your Spirit they’ve called on in prayer.
The sick have been healed, the trapped were released,
A split-second’s timing changed mortal events
You’ve blessed and protected, You’ve healed and retrieved
In heaven we’ll learn Godincidence is real.
Let us live in the Spirit with thanksgiving and praise
That from Creation’s beginning He knew we would need
The Son to reveal Him, the Spirit to guide,
And sent us the Comforter, This Person, so real,
The Inspirer, the Blessed One, Holy Spirit, the Power
Who fills us with patience until the last day
When we escape earthly boundaries, and know fully well
The joy of the Father, Holy Spirit, and Son.
So my prayer this day is a conscious plan
To avail myself of His Mighty Power
To listen to His promptings, intentionally tuned
To recognize His leading, not depend on my own,
To attend to the saints’ needs, wherever He leads
To witness and testify what the Spirit has done,
To praise my God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit
Until my days on earth are done.
