Guess we’ve dodged another “hurricane” type threat today. Two weeks ago, it was Dorian which skirted our shore; today it’s an unnamed tropical depression which was to bathe us in tons of rain and swirl it around with wind. The joys of Florida life.
The last two evenings we’ve had sweet GK times. While our kids, Paul and Mary, their parents, and our daughter Nancy have been rehearsing for this weekend’s concerts with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, we’ve put our darling granddaughters to bed with lots of hugs and enjoyment.
Two years ago I published a book about these weekends, called “Yay! Hooray! It’s Concert Day!” and they just delight in feeling special going to hear the orchestra play. In the year since I’ve blogged, Kaley has finished book 1 Suzuki violin and is well into book two, and last week participated in her first, and I may add intimidating, Youth Symphony rehearsal herself. She’s become quite the little violinist, and I’m reliving early music lesson memories. And little Emily, who is five, is learning her second song in Suzuki repertoire, “Lightly Row.”
This afternoon I will attend the monthly meeting of Space coast Writers’ Guild, a group which is an encouragement to me as a writer and a literary soul from way back. I only wish I could see better to resume my reading passion. But I’m content to be among those who are writers and who are interested in what I’m doing as well.
I’m currently writing chapter 23 of “Apple Tree Lane” and hope to finish it by the end of the year. Since 2012 I’ve published every year. Hope to keep the record going, but battles with sight have made it much more difficult. Here’s hoping.
Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy tonight’s and tomorrow’s concerts, and prepare for my next challenge, kidney stone surgery on Wednesday morning. Signing off with Flannery O’Connor’s quote, “I write to discover what I know.” and at the moment, this is what’s on my mind. Blessings.
A career teacher, with forty years of teaching language arts/English, Betty Jackson enjoys wordsmithing, writing, and reading as a vocation and avocation.Retirement is her "age of frosting," a chance to pursue postponed hobbies with gusto. She especially sends kudos to the Space Coast Writers Guild members for their encouragement and advice. Her five books, It's a God Thing!, Job Loss: What's Next? A Step by Step Action Plan, and Bless You Bouquets: A Memoir, And God Chose Joseph: A Christmas Story, and Rocking Chair Porch: Summers at Grandma's are available at Amazon.com. Ms. Jackson is available to speak to local groups and to offer her books at discount for fundraising purposes at her discretion. She and her husband soon celebrate their 47th anniversary, and have lived in New York, New Jersey, Iowa, and now the paradise of Palm Bay, Florida. Their two grown children and daughter-in-love, all orchestra musicians, and our beautiful granddaughters Kaley and Emily live nearby. Hobbies, and probably future topics on her blog: gardening, symphonic music (especially supporting the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra as a volunteer and proud parent of a violinist, a cellist, and an oboist), singing, book clubs, and co-teaching a weekly small-group Bible study for seniors. She volunteers and substitute teaches at Covenant Christian School, and serves as a board member of the Best Yet Set senior group at church. Foundationally, she daily enjoys God's divine appointments called Godincidences, which show God's providence and loving kindness.
