During this COVIC quarantine time, when few daily pleasures occur with regularity, I am thankful for three people who bless me with their photography. One posts pictures of sunrises each morning, perfectly framed with a river dock or palm trees or both; one takes daily walks through the woods and focuses on both the “big” picture and minute details, and my nephew delights in photographing the vast sky and beauty of rural Arizona. God’s eternal glory is revealed to us in the heavens.
I miss several of the houses where we’ve lived in our 51 years of marriage, where I could revel in the panoply of sky. This house has no windows on the east or west sides and tall trees on three sides. The front gives us a view of the space shots which frequently pierce the heavens. They’re always spectacular, and often we can see color through the tall pines. But there’s no question God continues to use colors in His paintbox that man can only dream of inventing.
Psalm 68:33-34 shows us God’s majesty and shows me over and over again His control over everything, including the heavens! He is the creator and sustainer of the Universe because He holds the power man only reaches to grab. Our politicians seem to think they are powerful enough to change a tenth of a degree of global warming. Try as they may, God tells us He rules the world through weather, through storms, through temperature, through cycles. Therefore we should do two things: pray for His mercy on a world which ignores the fact of His Presence and omnipotence, and revel in the earth’s beauty. “Sing to the One who rides across the ancient heavens, His mighty voice thundering from the sky. Tell everyone about God’s power. His majesty shines down on Israel. His strength is mighty in the heavens.” The Psalms praise Him. Man cries out to Him for mercy in times of trouble. He is the One with the answers and can and will hear us when we call on His Name. Celebrate ’21, Everyone! God’s Got This!
