Tomorrow the season of Lent begins. Because Easter date changes each year according to the Lunar calendar, Lent is a different length each year, roughly forty days. This year Lent is February 17th to April 3rd. Lent signifies Christ’s time of temptation by Satan in the wilderness. Additionally, I learned, because each Sunday represents a “little Easter,” Sundays are not included in the forty-day observance of Lent.
One of the songs I taught my junior choir kids, “Every Morning is Easter Morning” by Aver and Marsh, makes this principle clear. “Every Morning is Easter Morning from now on/ Every day’s resurrection day, the past is over and gone.” In my book, “Restore My Soul Psalms” A Lenten Journey,” I collected original Psalms I wrote during the 2018 season of Lent. I will share one each day on my website, www.bettyjackson.net. I chose the water lily representing the purity of nature, the creativve genius of God, the beauty of perfection. The Covenant story begins in Genesis and continues through Revelation and into eternity. May we perfectly praise the Creator both here and in eternity.
