Where I live in Palm Bay, people are aggressively building houses. Day after day, treed lots succumb to heavy machines which tear down the greenery, chase wild animals, and leave the ground bare. Some call it progress.
The Bible has some things to say about building, actually, lots of things to say. Psalm 127: 1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stands guard in vain.” Matthew 7:24-27 says: “Anyone who listens to My teaching and obeys Me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against the house, it won’t collapse because it is built on rock. But anyone who hears My teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will fall with a mighty crash.”
There are lessons to be taught here, and truths for lives which are far more important than stone or wood. As individuals, as cities, as a nation, we need to maintain the foundations, recognizing that God is in control and man either follows His precepts or man’s doom is the consequence. This is a fact: “If we hear God’s Word but do not obey, our foundation will not survive life’s storms. But what a comfort to know that no trial or circumstance can overwhelm the rock of our salvation.” (Pat Robertson, “Bible Keys to Well-Being”)
