Every Christmas Eve brings me new reasons to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Last night was no exception. Allie and Brian Lum Shue Chan’s story from the perspective of Hark, the angel, was a new iteration of the old story. I wrote a similar one several years ago called “And God Chose Joseph.” Then, this Grandma’s heart was overwhelmed by the beautiful voice of my granddaughter, Emily and her Covenant Church friends in their beautiful song to Jesus. It was her first solo. Last Sunday she told me she was too nervous to sing it. I counseled her, as others did for me, that we sing to Jesus, not to the people in the congregation. After she finished last night, she said, “Grandma, I can’t believe I actually did that!” It was flawless and the first of many, I predict. And her sister, Kaley was the videographer to capture the moment. Mom was directing the children as they brought their song to life with hand motions and sweet voices. Then, at our family Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus party, which my family has done for most of my eighty-one years, Emily was the first one ever to say, “Grandma, we have to set a place for Baby Jesus at His party. She chose one of the nativity Baby Jesus figures, poured punch, put a napkin at His place, so He could attend His party. I just had to tell my readers the extent of my joy that my grandchildren know that Christmas is about Christ.
