I was reading my passages for yesterday in the Book of Common Prayer, and this verse jumped, leaped, out at me. Hebrews 4:16 says: “ Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need ” I, of course, knew that we could approach Christ with our needs, for He is the High Priest and brings our prayers to the Father, but I’ve been concentrating on the words peace and grace this year, and this verse pretty much tells the story. We can come to Christ at any time, any place, and we always find Him ready to listen. And, I believe we are always in need. He calls us to Him. But, when we have a problem to solve, even a huge, big one, He is there to bring peace and mercy. When we fret about politics and threats of war and financial collapse, He is there. When we face illness–we are all COVID weary as more and more family members and friends suffer, or when we are in the throes of a dark and cold winter, psychological or physical, we can call on Him and in His grace and mercy, He will answer or give us the strength to carry on through the difficulties. So, in this day when there may be pain, suffering, disappointment, trouble, fears, or any of the other consequences of being mortal, let us recognize and give thanks that we can call upon the Lord of the Universe for grace and mercy.
I recently heard Wintley Phipps sing “His Eye Is on the Sparrow, and I Know he’s Watching Me.” What a rich blessing it was on a day when I needed grace and mercy. May it bless your day too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005S7OE1G/ref=ap_ws_tlw_trk3
