Some of you may remember the 1965 song, “What the World Needs Now Is Love.” Lyrics were by Hal David and music was composed by Burt Bacharach. I content that that’s the world has always needed, and, from my perspective as a Christian, what God has always given the world. You, of course have heard of John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall have everlasting life.” If only the world embraced that true love, we wouldn’t have the mess we have in our societies worldwide. And, if we adhered to the Corinthians 13 Love chapter in scripture, we’d have no worries about the grace and peace I’ve embraced as my theme for this year.
Here’s another, from Romans. On this day when America will spend billions on roses and trinkets, here’s chapter 8:31-32 for free: “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all–how will He not also along with Him, graciously give us all things?…No, in all things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
Have a great day expressing your love to others, but begin it by thanking God for creating a pathway for us to live with Him eternally. We need not fear pandemic, war, inflation, crime, or evil, because we know who wins the eternal conflict and will be victorious. God is sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and loves us. Does that mean we won’t struggle in this mortal life? No. But, He gives us the strength and fortitude, and persistence, and overcoming ability to learn from difficulties and to trust in His power to live with hope, vigor, grace, peace, and victory. Ephesians 3:21 puts it this way: 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Fill this day with forgiveness, peace, grace, mercy, thanksgiving, and lots of love.
