Tuesdays I meet for early breakfast with a lovely group of women fondly called The Magnolias. When I returned home, my little driveway garden arrested my attention on an Easter lily with five open blossoms and one getting ready to open. Such pure beauty. I planted this lily three years ago, so hoping it would survive, and survive it did, beautifully.
Isn’t it wonderful that past hopes become present realities? Two years ago this week we were eagerly awaiting the birth of our granddaughter. This week we celebrate her second birthday. What a blessing it is to wait for so long to see the promise, and then rejoice when it too flowers into such beauty!
God’s promises are like that. He tells us that through troubles, worries, anxiety, and angst, he’s there to shower blessings in His good time. I long to trust more, to get rid of the plague of doubt, replacing it all with the certainty that in His control, in His good timing, all will be well. My head knows that, but my weak flesh still succumbs to the “what if’s” for things way out of my personal control–or as they say in business, way above my pay grade. I need the attitude of gratitude, and the grace of those Easter lilies. They neither labor or spin, yet even Solomon in all his spendor was not dressed like one of these.
My garden teaches me yet again, to first seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well, and indeed our lilies will bloom to bless us and others another day!
