This is my post from yesterday. I didn’t get to post it on time, but it relates to the message just posted for today. My Psalm 238: (first published in my book: “Life-Changing Water: Chaos to Glory: A Metaphor Study”
REFRESHMENT
My Psalm 238
Dear Heavenly Father, Abba, Father
This day I rejoice that in all the clamor of life,
In all the distractions, in all the busyness,
I can rest in Your Presence.
With the Psalmist, I can attest to this truth:[1]
I sought the Lord, and He answered me;
He delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to Him are radiant;
Their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
He saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps
Around those who fear Him and He delivers him.
And with Anna Laetitia Waring, whose hymn I love, I proclaim:
“My heart is resting, O my God,[2] I will give thanks and sing;
My heart is at the secret source Of every precious thing.
I thirst for springs of heavenly life, And here all day they rise;
I seek the treasure of Thy love, And close at hand it lies.
I have a heritage of joy, That yet I must not see;
But the hand that bled to make it mine Is keeping it for me.
And a new song is in my mouth, To long-loved music set;
‘Glory to Thee for all the grace I have not tasted yet.’
My heart is resting, O my God, My heart is in Thy care;
I hear the voice of joy and health Resounding everywhere.
‘Thou art my portion, saith my soul,’ Ten thousand voices say,
And the music of their glad Amen Will never die away.”
I’m looking for refreshment
My soul’s upset by daily things
Distracting my walking with You.
The jarring noise, the interruptions,
The mundane worries interfere
I’m seeking relief. Come help me, Lord
Make sense of why I’m here.
And so, while all the babble
Of talking heads ensues
Opinions mortal, so outrageous
The rancor on the news,
The politics, the threats of war,
The ceaseless problems posed,
I understand I’m blessed, assured
In knowing Who’s in charge.
Tall hedges of Your protection
Surround me and those I love
My quiet time is oh so sweet
Meeting with You, Lord.
So the covenant’s new day dawns,
And fresh challenges arise,
I rest in You, my only joy,
And leave this world behind.
I concentrate on Kingdom things,
Your Word a lamplight’s Guide,
My comfort, Your Presence, my eternal joy,
Sufficient for this day.
Sufficient for tomorrow,
Enduring Presence to show the way.
I look at creation, Your master plan,
Your bird songs bid me listen,
I feel cool zephyrs embracing my skin
And watch the clouds go by,
I know my todays, tomorrows
And all succeeding days
Are under Your supreme commands.
Each second, each day, each month,
Each year, each decade, all of life
Are guided by Your hand.
I’m cleansed at the fountain of Your love
The wellspring keeps me strong,
I can face mighty affronts and buffets
Of this world’s certain storms
For Jesus is my Rock, my strength
I didn’t know before,
And He’s the source of the River of Life
Sustainer of my soul.
Each breath is ruled from heavenly realms,
Your Spirit guides my days
So, I can here abide assured
You need me here to dwell
Until that blessed day
When the life I know will cease
And my new heavenly one begins
“Come to Daddy’s House!” You’ll say,
Oh, the transport of delight
When You carry me Home to stay. Amen.
