THEME 2: GOD HAS A PLAN
SCRIPTURE[1]: A branch will grow from a stump of a tree that was cut down. So a new king will come from the family of Jesse. The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon that king. The Spirit gives him wisdom, understanding, guidance and power. And the Spirit teaches him to know and respect the Lord. This king will be glad to obey the Lord.
He will not judge by the way things look. He will not judge by what people say. He will judge the poor honestly.
He will be fair in his decisions for the poor people of the land.
THINK ABOUT IT:
God had a plan for a king, but everyone was surprised who that king was. Jesse had many sons. They were tall, handsome, and could have become the king, but God wanted the one who was out taking care of the sheep. He was like a servant to the other brothers, but long before he was even born, God chose this young man to serve Him in a special way. His name was David and he also was one of Jesus’ ancestors, chosen especially by God in His plan.
And notice he will be a good king. He will not judge by the way things look. That’s a good thing. He will be fair, and will have wisdom, and understanding, great gifts from God.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father. Just as you had a plan for the son of Jesse many long years ago, we know You have a plan for my life too. May we listen to You, may we become the best we can be as students, and as servants, and may we learn to not just judge things by how they look, but by using wisdom and understanding. We know you have a plan for us. Help us to know what it is, and when You choose us to do something special for Your Kingdom, we will know that You knew way before we did, what that plan would be. Thank You for sending Jesus as part of Your plan to save the whole world, and especially for us. Amen.
