I’m borrowing a quote from Susie’ Larson’s des calendar “Blessings for Every Day” today. For April 21, she writes, “He, meaning our loving and resourceful God, gives good gifts to His children.”
What a wonderful weekend we at Covenant Church had. As I’ve written lately, we’ve spent the better part of three years waiting for yesterday. We just dedicated our new church facility to God’s use yesterday. We met the architect, the builders, the financial gurus who made it all work, the Mayor of Palm Bay, and recognized the amazing work of our building committee.
Additionally, this weekend, about a hundred of us in the congregation attended the “Express Your Faith” seminar with the talented and insightful leader, Randy Pope. We are on a mission at Covenant, not to grow bigger, which indeed may come with the use of our new facilities, but to grow deeper in our faith and bring others to the faith. In our six-hour seminar we discovered tools and materials and a philosophy which has worked in Randy’s establishing the Perimeter churches in Atlanta.
Wednesday night, we heard from one of our church plant pastors from Brazil who has established five church plants in Rio De Jannero. He established discipleship training, and each of those churches have now begun planting daughter and granddaughter churches. He has now moved to Brasilia, the beautiful capitol and will build a new church facility. He plans to plant five churches in each of the five sections of that city. What an inspirational story. Covenant Church sponsors church planters all over the world, and we pray for those new Christians we will meet and greet in heaven.
Then, we heard the Space Coast Symphony’s two concerts this weekend. What a thrill to be bringing the fifteenth year of our beloved group to a close next month and then begin our sixteenth year. With two awesome soloist and this distinguished group of musicians, we were transported to new heights once again. We honor Aaron Collins for his vision and the tenacity to bring the Symphony for Everyone, even little girls in their fancy dresses who danced to the music with complete abandon and joy. The many children who related to Disney music and characters, and the teens who’ve grown up on these films showed us that indeed, young people relate to good music played well.
Now, to Susan Larson’s words for today. I honor her, and although I have not asked for permission to share her words, I’m quite sure they are for a larger audience than just me. “May you embrace the grace to leave your past in God’s hands. May you have the grit and face down your fears. May you have teh gumption to go after your God given dreams. And may you see God’s glory shining over every part of your life. He gives good gifts to His children.”
I’m believing her today for what I am facing. Two events today: one–distributing my memoir-group’s copies of the book they have written and helping them each with their next memoir journey, and two, signing papers to get my younger sister here to Florida to enrich her life and love on her. May I remember Susan Larson’s words of grit and determination, and Christ’s blessing that through Him, all things are possible. The Bible says it, I believe it, and I’m acting on answers to prayer for all the above mentioned blessings I’ve received this past weekend.
A career teacher, with forty years of teaching language arts/English, Betty Jackson enjoys wordsmithing, writing, and reading as a vocation and avocation.Retirement is her "age of frosting," a chance to pursue postponed hobbies with gusto.
