Imagine! It’s August already. Perhaps not everywhere, but here in Florida, our teachers (son, daughter, DIL) go back to work TOMORROW! and the kids begin school in two weeks. How can time fly by so quickly?
So, we are numbering our days. Stores are clogged with back to school shoppers plus, here, worried “storm-watchers” stocking up on water, cleaning supplies, “safe” food, and batteries in case this squally thing near us turns viral. My desk calendar Bible verse takes on new meaning when all this “stuff” arrives to tarnish the brightness of this new day. “I pray that out of His glorious riches, He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being.” (Ephesians 3:16.) The other one says, “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You ahve taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy that I might sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord, my God, I will give You thanks forever! (Psalm 30:11-12) May this be our song after every trial we face.
But for every day, whether we hear of Middle East tensions and perhaps spread of war, and the continual investigations, conspiracy theories, political animosity, and other “downers,” may we trust our sovereign God to prepare us for whatever we face. We know we have a benevolent heavenly Father Who answers our prayers even before we utter them, and heals on His timetable, and provides compassion at just the right moment when we think we can’t go on. May He use us to bring sunlight into others’ lives today by listening, caring, and providing us the strength to encourage. May that be our mission as we seek His constant wisdom to share with others. We can make things better.
As to the swift passage of time, yes, it’s August, and yes, the stores are full of fall foliage and yes, Christmas decor, and oranges and yellows and sweaters and scarves and mittens shout “Buy Me!” and stores stocked “shoebox filers” for sending to children around the world. One thing’s for certain. Time passes, and we have our marching orders, to spread the joy of Jesus and the sure hope we have found in His direction for as many days as He gives us to do so. (Kindergarten graduation was so long ago!)
