When Isaiah says it, I listen. When Jeremiah says it, I listen. When Jesus says it, I really listen. When Jesus Calling reminds me, I share it with you. Whenever God reveals who He is, whether through scripture or other writing, or music, or art, or the actions of fellow Christians, I listen. And always, I leaarn more about God’s grace, His protection, His glory, His eternal presence, His forgiveness, His care for His universe, and even for me.
Today, in Jesus Calling, Sarah Young writes: “I am your Father-God. Listen to Me! Learn what it means to be a chld of the everlasting King. Your richest duty is devotion to Me. This duty is such a joyous privilege that it feels like a luxury. You tend to feel guilty about pushing back the boundaries of your life to make space for time alone with Me. The world is waiting to squeeze you into its mold and to crown out time devoted to Me. The ways of the world have also warped your consience, which punishes you for doing the very thing that pleases Me most: seeking My Face. Listen to Me above the clamor of voices trying to distract you. Ask My Spirit to control your mind, for He and I work in perfect harmony. Be still and attentive in My Presence. You are on holy ground.”
William D. Longstaff put it this way in one of my favorite hymns: “Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; Abide in Him always and feed on His Word. Make friends of God’s children; Help those who are weak; Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.”
In Isaiah 61:10 I read: “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridgroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.”
Prayer for the day: Our gracious Lord, dwell in me today, so that I may shine for You. Use me for Your honor and glory, to proclaim Your message of love and care for Your children and Your creation. Guide and direct my paths so they lead directly to You, for Your praise and glory, and the peace and comfort of Your people. In Jesus’s precious name. Amen.
