I read the end of Psalm 32 this morning. I needed that. A few friends and I gathered for prayer earlier, holding up several mutual friends and family members who are hurting right now, or who have decisions, or need healing. I believe in prayer. I believe God indeed numbers every hair on our heads and cares for every cell in our bodies, every decision we make, every pressing worry which robs us of peace and sleep at night.
That being said, He tells us this in His word, if we but take the time necessary to read it and meditate on His goodness. He told me this morning: “I will instruct you and teach you in the the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!”
And so, even with cares of health concerns, house inspections gone awry, accidents, major decisions to be made, I know God can and does make all things good in His timing, and we, like the horse or mule who need “gentle” persuasion, just need to be reminded of who is in control.
Today, I walk in the peaceful path that although I may be concerned about many things, like Martha in the New Testament, and think I must simply do something to fix things that I have no business trying to control, that I can rest easily in the arms of the one who created me, and who sustains me, and rejoice and be glad, once more, trusting in His faithfulness, justice, and mercy. I can indeed “let go and let God.”
Just had a call from my son that his three-year-old just endured a blood test without flinching! I prayed for that. I also told him to take her out for an ice cream cone and buy her a flower to make her feel special. She hopefully will not remember being three, but her parents’ loving care will carry her safely through, reminding her of the love of the heavenly Father who dearly loves her. Prayer number one for the day answered better than I could have imagined. Another Godincidence. I needed that!
