Thanksgiving should not be limited to a Thursday in November, but should be in our hearts and on our minds daily. I’ve always called it Thanksliving. It is inevitable that negative things get the attention first in our days–I gotta do this, or I must solve this problem, or this is where I need to focus my attention or awful things will happen. We stress, we worry, we feel guilt when we fail to address the priorites, and we feel the consequences of tasks not accomplished, and on time. I contend, however, that we need to keep our prayer life up, we need to often consider blessing others, because in so doing, the tasks take on the positive tints of service rather than obligations. If we keep all in perspective, we should be starting out with the attitude of gratitude that 1) our service is vital to someone or some effort; 2) that we have recognized capabilities to attack and succeed at that task; 3) that the satisfaction will come when the task is completed; and 4) that we are grateful that we can be of service. Perhaps this perspective of Thankliving and Thanksgiving will help our days to go more smoothly, and at the end of the day, we will discover a hightened sense of satisfaction in noticing the jobs well done, so we can attest: This has been a great day and God has blessed it.
