From my favorite hymn: “Praise ye the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise Him, for He is they health and salvation!”
Finally feeling better after my bouts of bronchitis, stomach bug, intestinal bug, another cold, and major back wrench–this morning I’m able to say, “Thank You, Lord, perhaps I’m healing and can get on with life!”
I am quite sure there is noting quite so humbling as being so sick that one cannot lift head or limb without earthwinding dizziness, weakness, and total inability to think, move, or care to do either. Perhaps I needed such complete exhaustion in order to rise again, Phoenixlike, and appreciate the measure of health one can still possess at 74 1/2 years. Who knows?
Coming out on the other side of this situation is a blessing. I look around at the dirty floor, the disorganization of the bathroom counter, the weeds outside that demand pulling, the bushes that haven’t been trimmed in a month, the children’s toys in disarray, and the stack of phone messages and emails I haven’t answered, and think, “Maybe it was easier having an excuse than to tackle these messes.”
Yet, this is a Monday morning opportunity, isn’t it? Ev is busy studying his Bible lesson for tomorrow, I should be, and there’s plenty to do. Here I am writing about it instead of doing! So, here I go with my resolve, and God helping me, I will attack whatever pile calls my attention first.Yes, He so gently sustaineth.”
