Baccalaureate at Covenant Christian School: Erik Axsom taught the Hebrew word kabod, meaning weighty, or having substance, or being significant. What a great message for the graduates who now face adulthood where many decisions await them, some of them with lifelong implications.
Marketing your book seminar: a misnomer, sort of, since we authors learned we are not marketing a book, but are marketing ourselves as authors of books. We need to focus on the fact that we have something to say, and that something has weight or significance, or kabod.
NASA film of the world from outer space: Accompanied by awesome music, this film showed the utter majesty and complexity of our planet seen from outer space and the International Space Station. The majesty was impressive, and man’s little insignificant pieces of hardware (the shuttle, the space station) seemed tiny and frankly ugly, marring the scenes of God’s creation.
What is the view from here? These were all thought provoking from the point of view of a personal view of one’s significance. I need more time to process the implications. Suffice it to say, when events occur almost simultaneously which seem to invoke examination of one’s place in society, in the lives of others, and in view of eternity, they invoke kabod of the highest order. Just sayin’
