Each time I have published a new book, I’ve related that it’s rather like giving birth. The concept, the nurture, the painful hard work, the perceived endless waiting, the necessary self-discipline, the diligence of preparation, the intensity of labor, the euphoria of delivery, and the joy of sharing the good news–those are a few of the similarities.
Writing book number seven has been an interesting experience. I have not attempted a series before, and I rather enjoy it. I love seeing where characters develop their stories, intertwine their relationships, and become as real to me as if they were actual acquaintances.
When I told someone a few weeks ago that I was waiting to see how the story ended, I meant it. I knew I was approaching a 300 page self-imposed page limit, and I had no ending to Winter Wonderland at Whispering Woods. All of a sudden, one early morning, the time when I like to write, I knew exactly how I would bridge the gap, finishing one book and introducing its sequel, Splendid Springtime at Whispering Woods.
Just as one welcomes a new little one into the home, I’m hoping Winter Wonderland at Whispering Woods has the same effect as one of my readers expressed: “I can’t wait to read Betty’s last book!” And I can’t wait to share the story of Whispering Woods, the retreat-resort center my imagination has created in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. It’s a place conceived in love, nurtured and developed with much prayer and thought, and now emerges as a tribute to overcoming adversity and following God’s purpose. This is a series of books which extols God’s sovereignty and the power of prayer and faith in His delivery of Godincidences, even after the disaster of 9/11 left lives in turmoil.
Winter Wonderland at Whispering Woods is now available in paperback and ebook formats at Amazon.com. It’s my newest arrival, and I’m happy to announce its birth. And, I announce the recent conception of its sibling, Splendid Springtime at Whispering Woods, due in early 2016. Wait for it, Wait for it.
