Well, we’ve become landless…first time in our married history we haven’t owned a house (or mortgaged one). Yesterday we paid off the mortgage, and bills and became independent livers in our new home. There’s something freeing about all this, but it’s not without cost.
Ev and I are exhausted, physically and mentally. This whole month’s adventure is not to be relived. Too many decisions, too much accumulated stuff, too many unknowns, but God has been faithful through it all.

There’s something cathartic about moving. The dictionary meaning of catharsis is: 1.the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions.” It is true that we become emotionally attached to things, or the idea of possession of things, and moving brings all the “stuff” of ownership to the surface with surprising results. For instance, the toy that a baby played with has special meaning; the dried rose kept from a baby’s baptism, the wedding gift from a…..
Last night’s awesome “Rite of Spring in Summer” was just awesome, but what followed it was a thunderstorm of epic proportions. Witnessing God’s power with concert goers huddled together at Holy Trinity in north Melbourne was quite the experience. For over an hour we witnessed lighting strikes one after another, thunder that shook the building, and torrential rain that flooded an aisle in the auditorium. Added to the mayhem were musicians with their precious instruments, elderly people in wheelchairs and…..
No matter what else is going on in my life, I’m passionate about my writing. When I have a project in mind, I think about it, I dream about it, and I must work on it at least a little bit. So, even with packing boxes scattered all over the house, with things staring at me that I must complete, with Mary’s birthday tomorrow, with concert weekend and all that implies with our volunteering, and movers coming in three days,…..
I am living proof that this verse from Deuteronomy is not just for Moses’ and Joshua’s time. It is sustaining us in this transitional move. It says: 8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
We’ve signed our lease, we’re ready to move, and with the help of family and so many friends, it’s our new reality once the “literal” dust has settled, the boxes…..
Remember the old saying, “All Dressed Up and No Place to Go?” That’s the limbo we find ourselves in this week. As most of you know, we are in the process of moving, and all is in readiness. So, in our main room of the house, I have one corner for the movers to pack–mostly paintings and outsized and fragile…..
There are things that make me smile. The well-wishes of friends who are cheering us on our way in this monumental housing situation, the helping hands who are making this whole thing possible, the sale of our home in four days to a buyer who will love it as we have, the seamless inspections and assessment, etc., and the hope that this whole thing will be over soon—we are so blessed.
Secondly, our small group has been in prayer for…..
Today we celebrate Fran DeLeonard’s life. She is now with Jesus, Whom she loved and served. When I think of Fran, I sing to my own soul the hymn we sang together, “My Jesus, I Lovce Thee.” These words were written in 1862 and loved by the church ever since (Hymnary.org)
1 My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine; for thee all the follies of sin I resign; my gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou; if ever…..
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is from Lamentations. I quoted it yesterday, so forgive the repetition: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consummed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:21-22.
Here’s what comes before that. Does this sound like the woes many face today trying to live life on their own and running on a treadmill backwards? We need this message more today than we…..
