From the internet:
What are the 3 requirements of Lent? The three traditional pillars of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through the three pillars of Lent we journey to develop a closer relationship to God. The 40 days of Lent should be filled with reflection, service and prayer. Ash Wednesday, today, begins forty days in the Christian calendar leading to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. Because Easter’s date changes each year according to the Lunar…..
I’ve been delinquent in writing my blog the last few days–life gets in the way sometimes. As you know, I am trying to complete my book: Sam’s Sea Stars Saga. The editing/proofreading task is always much harder and more intense than the writing. Although the basic manuscript was hastily done in 1500 word daily pieces in November as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo),…..
I doubt any player or coach, or even fan, for all that it matters, went to the Super Boal or yelled in front of the TV was apathetic, lackluster, or uninvolved. On the contrary. There are many euphemisms for the passion, the energy, the “revved-up” attitude, or the enthusiasm displayed yesterday. Whatever their motivation, actual interest or going along with the crowd and happy to be “up” about anything following a week of dismay, worries, questions, and apprehension, people yesterday…..
Here I am, in my jammies, sitting in my deteriorating old office chair, 5:00 a.m., my old cat Zachary as my writing companion, attending to my writing. I could have author-style dreams of a mountain retreat, a she-shed with flowering window boxes, a seaside cottage, anyplace where I don’t get distracted by household duties, a ringing…..
It’s February, or Lovuary or some such thing on the Rom Com channel. Ads for diamonds and fancy pajamas and roses and such fill the many interruptions to the movies and other shows. But I want to write about the love that God showed us by sending Jesus to live with us as Son of Man.
As you know, I am studying the book…..
The theme for today is “Hovering.” Precipitated by the Chinese baloon that is surveilling us from 60,000 feet and causing us much discussion, I’m thinking about the ramifications of knowing that another superpower is hovering over us, uninvited, trying to see what we’re up to.
Then, I watched a doting grandfather at the cafe where we…..
There are at least two places where the sentence, “Nothing is too hard for God,” appears. One is the Sarah story when she is told she will conceive and bear a child way after the age of fertility, and one in Jeremiah 32:17.
I just heard (viewed) a You Tube presentation about the influence and uses of Artificial Intelligence. It scared me as a Christian (the film is by a Christian woman), as a writer, as a grandmother, and as…..
Today I begin a long-awaited Bible study of Revelation using Nancy Guthrie’s book, Blessed. There are three groups using this book and video series at Covenant, and I’m excited to see her “revelation” on Revelation. While I have studied John’s book several times, I like the approach this author is taking.
I use two desk calendars with Bible verses on them, and again, today, they converge with the same message. Ephesians 3:19 says: May you experience the love of Christ through…..
Several family members and friends had birthdays this week, and we’re almost through the first month of the new year, so it’s a good time to consider how we “number our days.” Psalm 90 teaches about the passing of time. Additionally, I’m beginning a study of the book of Revelation. I did not know, and now do–see, I’m still learning new things–that the word Revelation means Apocalypses in Greek, and that when things of God are revealed in a special…..
Remember when you were in high school, you longed to belong? Being part of a group gave you a sense of recognition for who you were and who you wanted to be. After all, that’s an indication we are made in the imaage of God, when you think about it. God is trinity–associated fully with Father, Son, Holy Spirit, integral to His being. Jesus called a band of disciples, and…..
