I guess I need today’s Psalm perhaps more than you, Dear Readers. It seems there’s a Dottie crisis just at bedtime which costs me sleep. I’ve never been an anxious person, or at least rarely. But I’ve never been my sister’s “keeper,” either, and I blame myself when she calls with an issue only I can solve. So, while she’s away at dialysis this morning, I need to be sure she has gluten-free bread for lunch when she gets back,…..
I wrote this a few years ago. The timing was interesting. As I mention in the poem, I had befriended a woman, and it turned out she was a “chronic” user of people to advance her agenda. I soon learned she lied to me, and while I was trying to “help” her in her time of difficulty, I suspect she was always “in a time of difficulty,” and I was enabling her negativity to affect mine negatively. She took advantage…..
I hear on the news this morning that 1000 demonstrations, protests, rallies, gatherings–whatever monikers are given–will occur today. These are planned examples of what their leaders call exercises in free speech. I, for one, love the freedoms this country espouses, but am amazed at the organized chaos likely to occur. Television cameras will show enraged ,misguided, (perhaps paid for compensations from those who want to oppose duly elected officials for proposing change, ) people with nothing better to do than…..
I’ve title today’s blog “Recovery in All its Forms : It No Joke! ” because whether we are recovering from overcoming an addiction, by finally feeling better after an illness, surgery, or Covid (yes, once again it has hit us for the fourth year in a row…useless vaccine) , or we have had relational issues to resolve or overcome…we all know it takes…..
Christianity is hopeful. There is a radiance about our belief that is soul-satisfying, and counteracts the negativity of the mortal world that seeks to sow chaos, lack of discipline, self-centeredness, pride, attention-seeking, and sin. God is in the business of showing love, kindness, mercy, and forgiveness.
I heard a new Christian song on the radio yesterday that is quite original in its content. I wish I could tell you who the artist is. I was driving in traffic, up to…..
Moving week for my sister is here, and amid all the exigencies and things I need to do, sickness has struck. First Nancy had this wretched cold, now husband Ev is sick, and I am praying that, sleep-deprived and tired as I am, I will be able to cope with the next five days. Pray that I don’t get sick, and even more so, pray that Dottie doesn’t catch this bug from any of us. That could be disastrous.
In…..
From the moment we know our minds and hearts have been touched by Jesus, He dwells within us. Theologians call it the “indwelling” or fancy terms like “election,” or the more current term, “chosen.” All I know is that my lifelong decision has been the focus of my choices and the direction of my life’s journey. To think that the Creator and Sustainer of the universe actually wants to, or longs to, adopt me as His own inheritance because Christ…..
On this Sabbath Lord’s Day, it is good to go to the House of the Lord and worship our God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Sabbath was created fro us to gain perspective, to rest, to honor our Creator-Redeemer, and to pause for reflection to correct our perspective on things. Otherwise, we’re making the world in our own image, rather than noting the path God has chosen for us. Especially during this Lenten season, it is wise to…..
For those of you who feel overwhelmed right now, I can identify. For those of you who are concerned about a loved one’s health or spirit, I can identify. For those of you who have a deep-seated problem to solve right this minute, I can identify. For those concerned about chaos and struggles, I can identify. For those of you with a sense…..
It’s always a good thing to pray for peace–among nations, in our families, in our communities, in our relationships, and in our hearts. As long, however, as sin remains in man, we have tendencies to self-centeredness, making idols of our comfort, our opinions, our possessions, our children, our possessions, and breaking the Ten Commandments. If you haven’t read them lately, Lent would be a good time to see if we commit sin in thought, word, and deed, and allow ourselves…..
