I am preparing for hip surgery nine days from now. I am exercising muscles I didn’t know I had, and it’s part of my routine several times a day. It will be valuable in my recovery time and effectiveness in using my new artificial hip.
The Bible has something to say about this, as it does about many of life’s challenges. Here’s what Paul write in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27: “Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only…..
Job 42:1 says: “Job replied to the Lord, ‘I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘What is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.’Job “
I will admit, in the last few months, I have been discouraged by things in the news, changes in our country, and health concerns of my own. I am…..
We’re having a “housing boom” in our neighborhood. In the last few weeks, we have seen more than ten new houses within a block of ours, with four on our street alone. I was reminded of a song I learned when I was in high school, oh, so many years ago. It is a prayer for others’ homes, and for ours……
This weekend I was privileged, along with hundreds of others in three separate concerts, to hear a piece of music by Balmages, a composer who wrote a piece called “Kiev, 2022–A Prayer for Ukraine.” Based on the Ukraine National Anthem, it was performed beautifully by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, a group dear to my heart. My husband…..
Birthdays are milestones, times of reevaluation, times to chart a course, time to reflect, and times to count blessings. I did that yesterday, among all the hustle and bustle of the day. Yes, there were flowers, balloons, candles, calls, emails, and even an audacious pin from my grandchildren reading: “Today’s My Birthday!”
I read in Jeremiah 1:5 God’s word to Jeremiah. Now he was being told he would be a prophet, but I can generalize this verse to mean God…..
Thought I’d catch you readers up on things going on.
I now have a date, too far in the future as far as I’m concerned, for my hip surgery. Must be others out there needing this good doctor’s services. I have two full months to put up with the hip pain that keeps me awake at night and miserable during the day. I realize I’ve lived a somewhat charmed life, physically. Most of my difficulties have been fixable in a…..
Redecorating is an ongoing business, it seems. Houses in our neighborhood are being built at a fast pace. It seems everyone wants to move to Florida. If houses are not being built from scratch, they’re being “refreshed,” or become fixer-uppers as people try to eek out every bit of space they can within four walls.
Summertime is a good time to reevaluate our lives, too. It’s a good time to reevaluate how we’re living. Is there “stuff” we haven’t used…..
Covenant Church is studying the topic “God’s Wisdom” this summer. Mostly based on Proverbs, but directing us to other scripture as well, we are thinking together about the contrast between God’s way of life and what the culture is saying, among other applications. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 we read: “16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Surely,…..
My computer screensaver changes every couple of days. Usually it’s a picture of a nature scene. This morning’s is especially refreshing. Picture mountain peaks in the background, lush grass and a sparkling pond in the center and tiny flowers bobbing in the sunlight in the place where I might be standing.
In a world which bombards me with challenges, and a body that is tethered by hip pain which I soon will address with surgery, it seems, I am discouraged…..
There are so many items in the news today that could cause us anxiety: the possible release of the Supreme Court decision on Roe vs. Wade, the economy, crime in our streets (is anywhere safe?), a possible assassination attempt on Kavanugh’s life, school shootings, monkey pox + another variety of Covid, and general malaise as we face $5.00 a gallon gas…..
