“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” (Psalm 116:15)
God’s word says: “I am your servant, give me discernment that I may understand your statutes. It is time for you to act, O Lord; your law is being broken. Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path…Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.” (Psalm 119: 125-128, 136)
Yesterday, once again, we heard of a mass shooting. A young man who did not know, or did not follow God’s laws, committed a massacre of fellow Christians in a church in Charleston. Our hearts are heavy; our tears are real; our pain and grief are profound.
This is my prayer. “Oh, Lord, Creator of the Universe and all life, Redeemer of the souls of those who love and serve You, be a very present help in our time of trouble. Bring our nation to a time of discernment, a time of revival, a time of prayer for redemption. Help us who know and follow your law, as much as is humanly possible, to stand up for your precepts in a fallen world. Help us to show the world, and disenfranchised people everywhere who do not follow Your laws that life holds no joy for those who do not follow the principles You set in place. Help those of us who know Your plan of salvation to be bold in proclaiming it, dedicated to making this world a better place because we follow Your precepts. Be merciful, Lord God, even as we await Your coming when every knee shall bow to Your authority, and every tongue confess that You alone are God, worthy to be praised forever.
“Meanwhile, we ask you to bless the families involved in this horrific event, and in Your eternal way, show us how some good can come from this. I thank you that those killed knew your Word, and knew You as their Lord. Amen.”
