Pat Robertson reminds us, “God wants to anoint us with joy and gladness.” How do we know? Proverbs 14: 13, 30, and 15 says: “A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit. a cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. For the happy heart, life is a continual feast.”
I know this has been a difficult time for our country, for many families, for our world. I know there is much anxiety afoot about jobs, health, inflation, and long-term results of COVID and its effects upon our loved ones. But I also know our parents and forefathers and foremothers faced adversity. Jesus certainly did.
The overreaching truth is that God is sovereign. He causes the rain and the sun to come to all creatures. No one said life on earth would be easy. Proverbs and Ecclesiastes remind us of the folly of seeking happiness in things which will rust away. We are taught not to expect riches to lead to fulfillment. We cannot live lives of luxury and entertainment, for they will not satisfy either.
However, God promises balm for our sorrows, peace for our troubled hearts, a peace that passes all understanding, and He gives us the means to affect change. This is what Jesus says: “You can ask for anything in My name and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. Yes, ask anything in My name, and I will do it!” (John 14:12). Does that mean the prosperity gospel is the way to riches? No, not a bit, but God will answer prayer and will bless us with an attitude of gratitude, a merry heart, a cheerful look, and life looking at the positives will indeed be a continual feast. Blessings on your day as you live it abundantly.
