I love references in the Bible to Angel Armies and the contemporary song’s chorus that says “I know who goes before me; I know who stands behind; The God of angel armies, is always by my side.” (Christ Tomlin). I was just reading Psalm 78, you know the one which recounts all the times when God has won the wars even though man keeps defying His commands. It talks about manna being the food of the angels.
I have several women in my life right now who have recently become widows. At this time of my life, I know the facts. I know our men usually go to heaven before us; statistics say so. I’m sending more sympathy cards than birthday cards these days. But here’s a verse I read today from Isaiah 54:4-5. I’m sharing this message for all of us:
“Don’t be afraid–you’re not going to be embarrassed. Don’t hold back–you’re not going to come up short. You’ll forget all about the humiliations of your youth, and the indignities of being a widow will fade from memory. For your Maker is your bridegroom. His name, God-of-the-Angel-Armies! Your Redeemer is The Holy of Israel, known as God of the whole earth.”

My mother studied the topic of angels and wrote a book called “Angels of the Bible.” You can still get it on Amazon. Author Bess Ferris. She taught me very early that I am protected by angels. I believer most of the angels in the Bible are depicted as male, not cherubs with wings or golden-haired fluttering females. But I know they do the Holy Spirit’s work, and I am sure that I have met angels unaware. Our God is so awesome. I pray you’ll embrace His offer of care for you as well.
