We were blessed by a message yesterday in church about dealing with discouragement, troubles, disappointments, or what I call “junk.”
On the outside, I’m usually the smiling, “I can handle anything” type of personna, but that’s often a charade, probably to make myself feel better. I choose to look at the brighter side. I mean, really, if God is in charge of the world, and in particular, my life and the lives of those I love, what’s to worry about? He is faithful and good, and a source of courage, hope, caring, and sustenance, right?
But I’m the one at night, more usually three in the morning, who dredges up the “situations” to think about: the mother who lost her child a year ago and can’t even go into the nursery; the evictions because of job loss; the familial strife because of long-ago hurts that have festered and molded bad attitudes and resentments; the six people I know who are battling, and probably losing their battles, with cancer. There’s a lot of “junk” out there.
But, does God even care? Yes, indeed he does, and for my part, through constant prayer this day as I sub for yet another sick teacher, I will seek to see His blessings and let them cover the hurts that gnaw at my soul about what sin has done to the world that He came to redeem.
And one day, that Paradise day, there will be no more tears, no more mourning, no more death, for He shall wipe away the tears from our eyes. We won’t even remember the hurts, the disappointments, the pain, the agonies of this life, because we will be treasuring ALL things made new.
