I love the reminders that Sarah Young brings me whenever I read Jesus Calling. Today’s is a reminder to be thankful. I’m feeling tired. Did some writing about 4:30 this morning, then went back to bed. I always feel the opposite of refreshed when I do that. Must admit, taking care of the children yesterday wore me out more than usual. It’s been a tough two weeks or so. We made a pot of stew, baked biscuits, planted seeds, and tended to an eighteen-month-old’s whims and tantrums. It’s hard being a baby trying to do what older sister does!
But today’s a new day. Going to hear a wonderful champion of the faith today, Nancy Guthrie. I’m so enjoying her Bible studies this year. She shows how Old Testament scripture is specific in referencing Christ. Currently studying the Wisdom Books, as if they all couldn’t be called Wisdom Books.
Sarah Young puts it this way: “I want all your moments to be punctuated with thanksgiving. The basis for your gratitude is My sovereignty. I am the Creator and Controller of the universe. Heaven and earth are filled with My glorious Presence.” Indeed they are, and indeed I am thankful. Yesterday’s little-big gem: Kaley said, “Jesus died on the cross.” When I asked her why He would do that, she said, in her three-year-old certainty, “because of my sins.” I asked her how we sin. “I disobey sometimes, like today when I didn’t take my nap!” Oh my. This grandma is SO thankful.
So Sarah Young says: “When you criticize or complain, you are acting as if you think you could run the world better than I do. From your limited human perspective, it may look as if I’m mismanaging things. but you don’t know what I know or see what I see. If I pulled back the curtain to allow you to view heavenly realms, you would understand much more. However, I have designed you to live by faith, not by sight. I lovingly shield you from knowing the future of seeing into the spirit world. Acknowledge My sovereignty by giving thanks in all circumstances.” I need to learn this lesson daily, hourly, minute by minute.
