One of the richest blessings of attending church, and there are many, is the benediction at the end of the service. The benediction is to carry us forward as we live our lives outside the sanctuary throughout the coming week.
Today, let us begin the day with this one. “Now, may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times, in every way. The Lord be with you all.” This one is from 2 Thessalonians 3.
On a day which begins with yet another funeral for a young police officer in New York, the threat of yet another winter story, the silly custom of predicting the end of winter (another six weeks, folks), and more controversies and disagreements from the media, the extended effects of COVID, claims that our athletes’ DNA will be used by China to help develop exceptional athletic ability for China’s takeover of the world, and the irony of The Washington Redskins’ name change to commanders (which happens to be the nane of Biden’s dog!), yes, even with all of this, we can live a life of peace.
Is peace, like the intention to keep the marriage vow, an attitude or principle that we claim above all the fray? I contend that whatever circumstances we are in, no matter what assaults come to us on a daily basis, if our faith is real, we can return to the sure knowledge that God is real, He is sovereign, and He can bring us the strength and commitment necessary to keep peace and our faith secure. May peace be with us all today, in all places, in all circumstances, and in the hope we cherish that God is good and He will keep us in perfect peace, for our minds are stayed on Him. Scripture says it, I believe it, and I pass it on to you today.
