I love Susie Larson’s daytime desk calendar called “Blessings for Every Day.” It is a flip page booklet published by Dayspring. Here is today’s message. May it encourage you to buy a calendar for yourself. Her advice based on scripture is right on, and it’s amazing how it suits just what I need on a given morning.
“May you have time today to pause, be still, and to dream with God. What does He have for you in the days ahead? May you move the clutter out of the way and make room for Jesus to change your life and establish you in His purpose for you. May the constant flurried activity be replaced by memories of how God has come through for you and absolute clarity about the things He has for you in the future. Always remember, He is the greatest treasure of all.” This is based on Psalm 116:7 which says: “Let my soul be at rest again for the Lord has been good to me.”
After the “hurriedness” of Christmas, when the leftovers stare at us, the “new” gifts find homes in our already blessed with too much warehouses of good things, and the carols have blessed us once more with the news of the greatest gift we could ever receive, it’s time to rest, give thanks, relax, and think about the joys we could salvage from 2021 and seek God’s purpose for the days ahead. Fifty-three December 27ths ago I was treasuring the hopes of a marriage. Families gathered for our rehearsal dinner, we “talked through” the ceremony, packed suitcases, entertained the church choir I directed and family and close friends at Ev’s parents’ house, and needed to read Susie Larson’s message. The truth is, beginning a new year and beginning a new life together is just a matter of degree of intensity. The message is the same. God has provided in the past and we can rest on the knowledge that His provision is all we really need, right? Have a blessed day this December 27th.
