This title, “Can One Man Save the World?” is significant today. As a Christian, I know One Man did save the world as a sacrifice for us all. If you don’t know the story, read the book of John in the Bible
However, here’s a story about another man named John. John Ondrasik, a singer, songwriter who became famous following the 9.11 attacks, and now has a project to save Ukraine. It is being featured today on all the TV morning shows, and is online. Here’s the information.
He gathered members of the Ukraine Orchestra, assembled them in front of the wreckage of a plane shot down by the Russians (and, incidentally, being rebuilt) after it delivered food and supplies to the people of Ukraine. They are playing music on the website saveourallies.org. His group is called Five for Fighting.
I bring this to your attention because I am praying daily for the people of Ukraine trying to save their country. I weep for the children, the families torn apart, the churches damaged, the hospitals mercilessly bombed, and the mothers wondering where their husbands are and where they will live. I am praying for the people in neighboring countries who have welcomed and provided for millions of refugees. I am praying for their beleaguered president who is hearing promises but few actual deliveries of aid. I am praying that Russia does not act on its ambitious plan to say, “See what we’ve done to Ukraine? Now we’re coming for you!”
In a world where the sins of man are all so apparent, I’m praying that the efforts of many to correct the injustices will succeed, and let it start today with a fresh use of music. I pray that this man’s efforts will resound mightily in the universal language of music.
Locally, the Space Coast Symphony is sponsoring a concert September 17th and 18th weekend focusing on Ukraine. In Brevard, it will be at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and it will be repeated in Vero Beach.
Meanwhile, every one of us can promote peace in our prayers to our transformational God Who answers prayer, and our lovingkindness to all people we meet and live among. One by one, we can change our world.
