Presidents’ Day may not mean much this year with all the cancel culture things going on. Do today’s students memorize, much less study, the Gettysburg Address? Do they read Washington’s Farewell Address? They did in my classes when I taught “real” literature for forty years. I suspect few even know today’s significance. Too bad!
The irony of a strange definition of impeachment is our “heritage” lesson today. There are a few tributes to Black History heroes and heroines. I’ll go out on a limb and say I’m appalled at what and whom people celebrate in our culture today. We seem to be ripping down people long idolized for their achievements. Our TV talking heads do everything in their power to malign anyone who achieves., unless that person can throw a ball or shout the loudest.
I’ll tell you where my praise goes: Psalm 92:1-2 “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High, proclaiming Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night.” I’d love to hear a resounding Amen (not a-woman!)
