Exodus 15:26 promises, and we take it for our new year to be truth: “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, obeying His commands and laws, then I will not make you suffer the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.” In this time of pandemic and civic unrest, in this time of assaults on the American culture, traditions, and long held standards of decency, in this time of distrust and questioning authority, we are no better off than the ancient wanderers in the deserts of history.
Your Daily Vitamin for today to help your soul grow: Return to the Lord’s warnings, or listen for the first time: God is sovereign; His holiness and justice will prevail; if we ignore or scoff at His guidance, we descend into man-made destruction. His law is just and we break these statutes personally and nationally at our peril: “You shall have no other gods before me; you shall not bow down to idols; you shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God; remember to keep the sabbath day holy; honor your father and your mother; you shall not murder; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not give false testimony against your neighbor; you hall not covet.” Moses told the people, and warns our civilization: “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” Let us heed that teaching.
