I don’t know what I would do without Christian fellowship. On three separate occasions this week, I have been blessed to be in special situations with groups of loved Christians, and in a small way, as a mortal, I’ve experienced what heaven must be like.
Sunday worship is always a joy because fellow Christians join in worship, praise, and study of the Word. Tuesday mornings I meet with members of a longstanding women’s fellowship called the Magnolias, where we share our life experiences, pray together, and encourage one another in our faith walk.
Tuesday night a group en masse from as many as fifty churches attended a City Council meeting in support of our local Pregnancy Resources facility which has serviced over 75,000 clients with support for crisis pregnancies. We prevailed against a concerted effort’s attack by abortionists who wanted to deny a grant for parenting classes. Knowing that the prayers of many and the attendance of those who supported efforts to save babies was another high point of my week.
On Wednesday at noon we met together as the Best Yet Set, the older members of the congregation. We ate a Providence lunch, prayed together, and worshiped in song, led by a woman whose music ministry includes visits to groups around the state of Florida. Her renditions of gospel songs reminded us of the blessings the Lord has brought our lives.
Wednesday night we gathered as a group of about thirty Christians to sing end-of-life hymns to a longtime Christian man who is about to enter heaven’s gates and be with our Lord in eternity. Married for over sixty years, a stalwart elder in the church, a devoted counselor to many, this dear man has lived his life well and is well-loved. By joining together in song we were able to bless his devoted family, and although we do not know whether he could hear us, we know that he would have joined by singing lustily if his illness had not intervened.
Tomorrow our small covenant group meets to study the book of Acts, and to encourage each other in our walk with the Lord. This is a highlight of each of our weeks, and a time sweet in fellowship. The bonds of fellow Christians are strong and eternal, and we enjoy this little bit of paradise here on earth as we fight life’s battles.
Christ promised us that where two or three are gathered in His name, He is in the midst of them. What sweet fellowship this week has brought. And it’s not over yet!
