I’ve been working at a frenetic pace today, trying to get things done before weeks of recovery from my hip surgery. At 7:00, before breakfast, I was pulling weeds. At 8:00 I was gathering things I will need for my hospital stay. At 9:00 I was checking the pantry. I finally stopped for breakfast. At 10:00, I’m getting ready for small group that meets at 1:00 by zoom. In between I have straightened up the house, dusted with my long-handled swiffer (where does all that dust come from anyway?), and I’m finally getting to write, which I usually do at 5:00 a.m.
Then, I sit down to read my devotion for the day, and guess what the verse says! Instead of doing WORDLE at 6:20, I should have looked at Mark 6:31. God has a way of stopping me in my tracks! “Because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, Jesus said to them, ‘Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’
That really is the best use of this time, since all afternoon I’ll be spending time with Him in John Piper’s book and the scripture it leads me to, and we’ll discuss the topic from my devotional guide. The first line of ‘My Psalm 221: Impatientce’ is: “Heavenly Father, the essence of patience/I call on You to grant me Your favor on this day./ I am feeling frazzled, misdirected, unstable/and call on You to restore me.’
Isn’t it miraculous how Godincidences occur? Yes, I will take time to spend on the important things and find the ultimate rest and peace I really need right now.
