Don’t you love it when two things converge, and don’t you wonder if God is behind the convergence. I do and I am sure of it.
In my first book, I showed many “chance” occurrences were not that at all. They were planned by God’s Almighty hand for His good purposes. I called them Godincidences.
Some days, the two devotional guides I use show me God’s interest in what my life is like right now, and He offers advice I need for the day I am facing. This is one of those predictable mornings. I’m feeling inadequate to the tasks I am facing, and there before me are two things which seem like love letters directed totally at me.
This afternoon I have three events I should, need to, must attend. It is a dilemma. As often is the case, I quote something I’ve said to myself often: When I’m in heaven, at least then I will know I am in the right place at the right time with not conflicts. Well, today I’d like to be attending an important meeting of the Space Coast Writers Guild, I want to attend the first concert of the Creative Youth Orchestra, a new ensemble for kids I really want to see thrive, and I must attend the memorial service of Bob Rule, a member of our church who is, praise God, in heaven where he knows he belongs. So there you have it. I also would like to spend the day writing my book; I’ve had precious few minutes to spend on my project lately, what with child care, volunteering for the Space Coast Symphony, and substitute teaching.
So, here’s the advice I read this morning as I began my day. Do you think it’s just coincidence? Do you think God is specailly reaching to me today. No to the first, yes to the second.
“I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to rach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.” (Philippians 3:13-14) Then, in Jesus Calling: “Approach problems with a light touch. when you mind moves toward a problem area, you tend to fucus on that situation so intensely that you lose sight of Me. You pit yourself against the difficulty as if you had to conquer it immediately. Your mind gears up for battle, and your body becomes tense and anxious. Unless you achieve total victory, you feel defeated. …You always face trouble in this life. But more importantly, you will always have Me with you, helping you to handle whatever you encournter. Approach problems wiht a light touch by viewing them in my revealing Light.” And there you have it.
The hymn writer of God of Our Father, Whose Almight Hand”, Daniel C. Roberts, put it this way: “Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way, Lead us from night to neverending day; Fill all our lives with love and grace divine, And glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.”
And so, this moment, and many throughout the day, I pray for God’s guidance in choosing the path He has set for my day, for each moment in it, knowing that He will provide the advice, the strength, the answers to prayer, and the protection for my soul and body until I reach the goal Paul wrote about so eloquently in Philippians. And so, blessings on your way today as well.
