“As a symbol of hope, the anchor is one of the most ancient of all Christian symbols. It usage is based upon the Apostle Paul’s words in Hebrews 6:19: “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast”. The anchor is one of the oldest inscriptions to be found in the catacombs, dating back to the second century. During times of persecution, the anchor took the shape of a cross to those who knew its hidden meaning.”
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You that you indeed are the anchor of our faith. Just as a boat needs to remain steadfast, so do we as we live in a fallen world. Help us recognize Your Presence, even when we don’t feel it could be ours. We know You are present when we pray; we feel Your presence in our church sanctuaries, whether fancy cathedrals or humble homes. But we need to feel You anchoring us in our classrooms, in traffic, at the workplace, and certainly in our homes.
We thank You that we can depend on You to be a steadying force in our lives. We don’t need to look for comfort or joy in things of this world, because You indeed are our anchor and give us the strength to stand up against Satan’s assaults.
Help us to anchor our faith in Your Word. To study, to memorize, to trust in it, to find comfort there, and to know the truths about You and about why Jesus is the Son of God and our savior. We thank You that we can indeed put our faith in the sure Anchor who will keep us on course throughout our lifetimes, so we can be present with You in all of eternity as You have promised us. In Jesus’s priceless Name. Amen.
