The Chrismon for Day 3 is the dove.
“The use of the descending dove to represent the Holy Spirit is based upon the account of Jesus baptism found in Luke 3:22 which says, “and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘Thou art my beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased.’”
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for choosing the lowly dove to teach us more about You. We remember when You used doves in the Noah story. After the flood waters receded, he chose the dove to see whether there was life left on earth to support the animals with food. The first time, the dove found nowhere to land. The second time it returned with a leaf in its mouth. Then it did not return.
The dove has long been a symbol of The Holy Spirit. This is because when Jesus was baptized, You sent a dove descending from heaven. You filled Jesus with the Holy Spirit.
We thank You that You show us Your love through things in Your creation. We thank You for these stories that show us more about You. And we thank You that the dove has become a symbol of peace, and that Jesus is The Prince of Peace, sent to us to show us Your love for us and for all people. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
