THEME 3: GOD’S CREATION
SCRIPTURE: [1]
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image and likeness. And let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the tame animals, over all the earth and over all the small crawling animals on the earth.”
So God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female. God blessed them and said, “Have many children and grow in number. Fill the earth and be its master. Rule over the fish in the sea and over the birds in the sky. Rule over every living thing that moves on the earth
THINK ABOUT IT
When God made the world, and everything in it, it was perfect. There was no sin. There was no evil. And man had a responsibility to keep the world beautiful. Man is made in the image of God. That means we can think. We can be creative. We have understanding. We can love.
He also gave us a job to do. We are to rule over the fish and the birds and the tame animals, and over all the earth. That means we need to keep our world healthy and in balance. We need to be what are called good stewards. That means we try to keep our planet beautiful.
We know that sin has disrupted the beauty of the world. Sometimes things are out of balance and there are floods and storms. Even worse, some people treat other people badly, meaning we forget we are all in the image of God. So as we think about the coming of Jesus who is called the Prince of Peace, we are thankful that God gave us a beautiful world to live in, and we need to keep it that way.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father. We thank You for making our world so beautiful. We thank You for colors and shapes, and the variety of birds and fish and creatures You made for us to enjoy. We thank You that we all are made in Your image. Help us to think of other people first, to live our lives in love for others and for Your world. You created for us to enjoy. Help us each day to live life so that when we know what Your plan is for us, we will be prepared to do what You want us to do to make our world even better than it is today. Amen.
