“This familiar symbol is best known at the Christmas season because of its appearance to the Wise Men at the birth of Christ. Matthew records: ‘And lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.’” (Matthew 2:9-10)
Dear Heavenly Father,
When we thing about Your universe, and the millions of stars You created, and that You know them by name, we are overwhelmed by Your power. When we see the constellations and notice that You keep them in their places throughout the ages, we wonder at Your sustaining of Your Creation.
When we remember You told Abram his descendants would outnumber the stars, and it came true, we know that You know all things from beginning to the end, and that Your Word is true, for it has come to pass.
When we read that at the end of time, the stars will fall from the sky as the new heaven and new earth emerge.
But the Natal star. That must have been something. It came to rest over the birthplace of Your Son and guided shepherds from near places and wise men from afar so they could worship the newborn King. How magnificent You are, Lord, that You command the stars to do Your bidding. We thank You for Your goodness and mercy in creating and sustaining this beautiful world, and for making that particular night so wondrous that even the stars announced Jesus’ birth. In His Name. Amen.
