In my soon to be released book, From Embers to Whispering Woods, I have built an imaginary Christian resort-retreat center. For those of you suffering with the cold, I thought I’d show you one of the cozy rooms, one of my favorites, the Willow Room. I love watching renovation shows on TV where the ugly becomes beautiful. It’s the transformation which is so interesting to me. The cleaning out of the junk and the replacement of the new. That’s what I hope is happening to my life in sanctification to become more Christ-like. That’s what this season of Lent is all about.
In my book, an old Victorian farmhouse, left empty for years, is transformed into what I’m calling The Grand Lady Mansion, four floors of beautiful rooms, each styled differently. Here’s the Willow, and for those looking forward to spring, a breath of fresh, and warm, air. “The first family suite, the Willows, faces East and features sunburst yellow walls with blue willow accents and toile upholstery. It is airy and light, only slightly formal with Chippendale and Hepplewhite antiques and mahogany carved beds with linen canopies. The bathroom is Carara marble with elegant fixtures, and an iris Tiffany window from a little shop in Great Barrington. It adds just the amount of panache and charm, and this room just whispers, “I’m perfect in just every way.'”
