At our small Covenant group on Wednesday, we read several verses from Scripture that talk about hair. Actually, they’re all related. They show God’s providence through long lives when we trust in Him. The Bible says that he notes every sparrow’s fall and numbers the hairs on our heads. That means God has a conscious effort to care for and about us. what a comforting thing as we watch threatening news about rumors of war, man’s inhumanity to man, a drug crisis, inflation, and homelessness.
Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” That means that while we have hopes, dreams, desires, and things we think we control, God is sovereign, and according to His will for us and the lessons he has for us, some of those succeed and some do not. I’m encouraged to know that during each day, each hour of the day or night, I can call on Him to direct my path, and, wonder of wonders, He does.
While things outside our control, seemingly, threaten and unnerve us, we can confidently step out each day knowing that, whether we live or die, whether our plans succeed or fail, we can always count on God to guide and direct our every step. Yes, there might be hardship but He provides strength. Yes, there will be moments of peace and grace. We are to thank Him for those, and count the abundance of them.
Proverbs 16:31 says: “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.” and Proverbs 20:29 says:”The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.”
