In honor of Jim Grimes, Merle Landrey, Shanna Hill, Mike Spencer’s mom, Mildred Mundy, Chris Mynheir:
My Psalm: Desperation to Deliverance
Almighty Father, strong to save
You deliver Your saints into Your eternal rest
When their job on earth is done
When You call them to Your blessed side
Leaving us bereft of their presence.
Today show us wonders You provide
That we might worship You
In redeemed spirit and in truth,
Though our hearts are heavy
Our eyes leak tears
Our heads know, our hearts break
In sorrow, for we loved them so.
When icy storms pass our way
And grey skies crowd our vistas,
When the cold of death
Touches us and those we love,
We pray deliverance
From the wasteland
Of lost hope.
We know Your love and promise:
Unchangeable, sovereign, eternal
And rejoice that Your Precious Son
Showed us the path we’d trod
Reunited with You
In paradise, forever,
Heirs of the kingdom, precious children
Drawn to Your side where we belong
Safe, secure, delivered.
Yet we grieve for those now gone
Away from us, yet close with Thee
For in their deliverance from earth’s snares
We find hope and courage to endure
Until we join the ramparts
On heaven’s crystal shore
Delighted as we’ve never been before
In this life.
So deliver now our spirits
Where You need us to be
To comfort the grieving with Your true words,
That You’ve gone to prepare a place for us
And have brought our loved ones there
Where tears no longer flow
Where ears hear Hallelujahs
Where hearts no longer break
In sorrow or grief
Or groans we feel this very day.
Bring comfort, peace, deliverance
Bring understanding only You can give
Bring the peace that passes our understanding
Strengthen our trembling voices
Singing our faint Hallelujahs
Joining our departed loved ones
Singing praise and Holy, Holy, Holy
In Your very Presence, round Your throne.
Thy will our watchword, Thy grace sufficient
Until we see beyond this present veil of tears
Your clear vision and promise for deliverance,
From the pain and suffering
To blessings our loved ones now know with You.
Amen.
