Well, the loud fireworks celebration is over (I hope), and we’ve done the American thing– expressed our thoughts, traveled without showing identification papers, overeaten, and talked politics. Our founders did the same. Not much has changed since 1776. But, there is much controversy, too much negativity, lots of character assassination, backbiting, and jealousy. I suspect that happened back in the day too.
This morning I’ve just read two scripture passages I’d like to concentrate on today. Let me share them. The first is from Isaiah, the gigantic prophet whose words should resonate in our day as well: Let all the world look to Me for salvation! For I am God’ there is no other. I will never go back on My word: Every knee will bow to Me, and every tongue will confess allegiance to My name. The people will declare ‘The Lord is the source of all my righteousness and strength.'” (Isaiah 45:22,-24) and then I think how God has blessed our nation because, for the most part, our forefathers believed Isaiah, and consulted God in prayer. If we believe the writings of our founders, they bathed their decisions in prayer. They based the Constitution on scriptural principles. They recognized the very necessity for God’s guidance. And those of us who continue to bathe our nation in prayer and in our private lives can attest to His power, guidance, and blessing. The other verse for today is from Psalm 116:5-7. “The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. the Lord protects the unwary; When i was brought low He saved me. Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.”
God said it; I believe it, for both are truth and I’ve experienced His rich blessings of grace and mercy. Let it be so for our nation, the collective We the People.
Won’t you join me in prayer, knowing that God is working His purpose out as we careen toward the promised end of the age. God’s judgment will follow our thoughts and actions, and if we as individuals and as a nation refuse to bow to His will, and to the Savior He sent to us, we do so at our soul’s peril and our utter destruction, both individually and as a nation. We need to be praying for our leaders, praying for peace, and blessing those who recognize their strength is not in their thoughts, but in their allegiance to the God of the universe who made them and sustains them. Pray for leaders’ salvation. Pray that the lost sheep find their true leader, and that God will bless His people as He always has.
