Politicians, commentators, TV entertainers, scoffers all: listen to what Psalm 1 says and change your ways. Those who listen to their opinions, especially those who parrot others’ thoughts or seek attention to themselves with outrageous statements need to consider the golden rule and God’s standards of propriety and truth.
Yes, we are still, in this country where freedom is espoused, express our opinions. Yes, we social animals like to call attention to ourselves because we think we have knowledge. But scoffers–they do not deserve our attention. We can control what we hear, and even more what we listen to.
Psalm 1 says: Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners or join in with scoffers. But they delight in doing everything the Lord wants,; day and night they think about His law. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season without fail. their leaves never wither, and in all they do, they prosper. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Matthew 5 puts it this way: You are the light of the world. Don’t hide your light under a bushel. Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine our for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Therefore, when we hear the scoffers, we interpret what they say in terms of what God says. And when it is our turn to speak, we speak God’s truth and stand up for His principles and His laws. Indeed, we have choices. Go out and live abundantly, changing the world for the better.
