Usually in November, I am writing daily for NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. This year has been a planned hiatus.
Let me recount my November.
I succeeded in getting my sister relocated from New York to Florida, no easy task. She is now living in a senior residence facility ten minutes from my home. In the first week there, she fell twice, visited both local hospitals, spent three weeks then in a rehabilitation facility, and has just this week returned to her residence and is getting settled in.
During that time, I had hip replacement surgery and am almost finished with my outpatient physical therapy.
Then I took on the fun of a building election night party with refreshments and its late hours.
Last weekend I was part of a panel discussion with the Space Coast Writer’s Guild discussing Memoir Writing. My five memoirs were part of the discussion, but my main focus is the all- but-finished third anthology of my writing group here at Glenbrooke, “Remember The Time. . .?” book. This writing group has completed three books this year. The third will be available on Amazon within days and the Book Signing Party is slated for December 16th at Glenbrooke Senior Living here in Palm Bay.
To say I have been occupied with so many activities is an understatement. It’s no wonder my husband and I contracted nasty head colds this week and just now are counting our sneezes and coughs in mere tens rather than literally hundreds a day with several sleepless nights.
Not to complain–it was inevitable.
So, now we face the holidays with Thanksgiving, decorating, the usual concerts, dance recitals for the grandkids, gift-exchanges, special events, and packed schedules.
Whew. I’m wondering how I ever had time to retire! Where, oh where indeed, did this year go?
I suppose, when the dust settles, I may begin yet another book or even book series, but I’m waiting for the inspiration and right now, frankly, the motivation to start a new project. I will continue, however, with my writing group here at Glenbrooke, and am considering starting one at my sister’s facility at Century Oaks. Or maybe not!
Just thought I’d get you all caught up. As I post daily encouragements to my family with scripture verses, I’ll post this one for you and me: from Psalm 128:
Blessed is everyone who fears theLord, who walks in His ways. You shall eat the fruit of his labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.. . . May you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel.
A career teacher, with forty years of teaching language arts/English, Betty Jackson enjoys wordsmithing, writing, and reading as a vocation and avocation.Retirement is her "age of frosting," a chance to pursue postponed hobbies with gusto. She especially sends kudos to the Space Coast Writers Guild members for their encouragement and advice. Her five books, It's a God Thing!, Job Loss: What's Next? A Step by Step Action Plan, and Bless You Bouquets: A Memoir, And God Chose Joseph: A Christmas Story, and Rocking Chair Porch: Summers at Grandma's are available at Amazon.com. Ms. Jackson is available to speak to local groups and to offer her books at discount for fundraising purposes at her discretion. She and her husband soon celebrate their 47th anniversary, and have lived in New York, New Jersey, Iowa, and now the paradise of Palm Bay, Florida. Their two grown children and daughter-in-love, all orchestra musicians, and our beautiful granddaughters Kaley and Emily live nearby. Hobbies, and probably future topics on her blog: gardening, symphonic music (especially supporting the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra as a volunteer and proud parent of a violinist, a cellist, and an oboist), singing, book clubs, and co-teaching a weekly small-group Bible study for seniors. She volunteers and substitute teaches at Covenant Christian School, and serves as a board member of the Best Yet Set senior group at church. Foundationally, she daily enjoys God's divine appointments called Godincidences, which show God's providence and loving kindness.
