The dictionary definition of immutable is unchangeable. It is one of the attributes of God. We can count on His constancy, his nature of dependability. We can remember there is no beginning or ending. That affects our concept of infinity and eternity.
Man is not so. Consider the radical changes in our government’s policies in the last two years and the effects we’re feeling on a daily basis. Consider that in the last twenty years we have lost our way because worship of the one true God has been squelched by laws, edits, tax policies, counter culture, and social changes in family structures. Consider, for instance, the abdication of fathers to discipline their children or even be present in their lives after conception. Consider changing mores of right vs. wrong, disregard for the Ten Commandments upon which many of our laws are based, and the results of secular humanism being taught in schools since the 1970’s. Now, the teachers who grew up under that system are teaching this present generation of school children Critical Race Theory and WOKE concepts which are undermining our society. Globalism is reducing our choices from the foods we eat, to the fuels we use, to international law. The results are massive migration as people seek to find freedoms they have lost. And now, our nation, the Bastian of freedom, is fast losing its grip on liberty as well.
But, there is hope. God is constant. God is immutable. God is unchanging. He is sovereign, and we know, in the end, that His law will prevail. He is holy, and those who follow His principles can overcome the present darkness. Here is what the book of James 1:17 in the Bible says, and herein is our word of encouragement: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, Who does not change like shifting shadows.” Earlier in that chapter, Scripture says: “”Blessed, happy, to be envied is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive the victor’s crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.” (amplified version). Now, there’s a promise that is constant, immutable…no matter what generation, from the earliest book of Genesis to our day and beyond until Christ’s return, we can count on God to be dependable in that promise. His covenant it eternal, and no amount of man’s sinful departure from His principles is too big for redemption provided to followers of Christ, Who is eternal, and indeed will win the battle as King of Kings and Lord of Lords forever.
