Yes, the walls came tumbling down, and America changed forever. We were appalled at the audacity of a small group of terrorists who stole our sense of security and affected our personal freedoms by their dastardly act. We are still victims.
Yes, there have been other events in history with long-reaching effects. Heroism in war, effective speeches, peace accords, passage of wide-sweeping laws, and inventions which have affected our lives. Hundreds of them. We always “say” we study history so it won’t repeat itself, then willfully wait for the latest headline so we can complain, shake our heads, or rejoice. Those are becoming rare, it seems to me, an octogenarian. When will we learn that man’s efforts pale in importance when God’s laws are not known and followed?
We were warned about jihad. We were warned about secular humanism. We were witness to the “do your own thing,” and “abort your babies,” and “gun violence,” and rampant self-aggrandizement and defiance of well-established principles defining good and bad.
Just how long do you think we can ignore God’s principles and get away with it? Here’s what Isaiah says: “Let all the world look to Me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other. I will never go back on My word: Every knew will bow to Me, and every tongue will confess allegiance ot My name. The people will declare, “The lord is the source of all my righteousness and strength.” Isaiah 45:222-24. Here’s the prediction God made: in 2 Timothy chapter 4: 3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power.
We as Americans boast about our strength, power, prowess, and supremacy. It will vanish in the twinkling of an eye. Revelation is the textbook. Here’s what will happen to our “Babylon,” the modern equivalent of New York City. We got a taste of it on 9/11.
“‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’[a]
She has become a dwelling for demons
and a haunt for every impure spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.
3 For all the nations have drunk
the maddening wine of her adulteries.
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
“‘Come out of her, my people,’[b]
so that you will not share in her sins,
so that you will not receive any of her plagues;
5 for her sins are piled up to heaven,
and God has remembered her crimes.
6 Give back to her as she has given;
pay her back double for what she has done.
Pour her a double portion from her own cup.
7 Give her as much torment and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself.
In her heart she boasts,
‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;[c]
I will never mourn.’
8 Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her:
death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
Woe to us. In the Presidential debate last night, God was not mentioned once. I listened carefully to the boasts, the lies, the innuendos, the deceptions, the picture of a society that kills its babies, misappropriates justice, and focuses on the negativity we’re living with because of man’s pride, selfishness, rejection of the Ten Commandments, violence, poor judgment, self-reliance, and bigotry. It is all to our national debauchery, and we Christians will soon see our government reject us in favor of government’s overreach and descent into further rejection of God’s law. Those of us who trust in God know what the result of man-rule will be.
But, hallelujah, we know the triumph, and every knee will bow in worship or the ultimate, final fear of judgment. And the walls will indeed come tumbling down.
