When we think of our lives, day by day, and we know Almighty God’s holiness, we are called to ask Him for mercy. The Bible is very clear that the atonement of Jesus providea a path to forgiveness and God’s saving mercy for us. What a marvelous thought. This weekend, as you ponder this thought, find a Bible-preaching church which honors our sovereign Lord and worships the Savior and honors the Holy Spirit, and embrace the blessing of mercy.
My Psalm 217, called mercy is today’s blog. May it bless you. Pass mercy on to others who cross your path today. Giving mercy to others grows us in the likeness of Christ.
MERCY
My Psalm 202
Heavenly Father,
When I consider all Your hands have made,
When I consider the heavens, the expanse,
When I hear the sea billows roar as they crash on the shore,
When I awake in the middle of the night
And realize, once again, that You are present with me,
When I see You answer prayer after prayer,
And when I feel Your protective arm around me,
I am overwhelmed with a sense of Your mercy.
You show Your Presence so often:
In the birdsong outside my window,
In the joy of my granddaughters running toward me,
In the lines on the face of my life-mate, memories shared,
In the lily blooming in the garden,
In the hug of a friend,
Even in the merciful end of life experience
When a loved one enters Your Presence for eternity,
I am overwhelmed with a sense of Your mercy.
When I read in Your Word
“Do not be anxious about anything,”
I know from experience
“By prayer and petition, with thanksgiving”
I can “present (my) requests to You
And (Your peace) which transcends all understanding
Will guard (my) heart and mind in Christ Jesus.” [1]
I am overwhelmed by Your mercy.
When I sing “There’s a Wideness in Your Mercy
Like the Wideness of the Sea,” [2]
I recognize how vast Your love is for me.
When I consider You loved us enough
To send Your Son to die on the cross as sin’s atonement,
I am overwhelmed by Your mercy.
With what words can I express
My thanksgiving for Your mercy?
My heart cries out for new expressions of thanksgiving,
My soul ascends heavenward to glimpse the full measure
But in mortal form, I lack the angels’ tongues
To stand before You singing, “Hallelujah, Amen.”
And when I’m finally there, will I be stunned into silence
So overwhelmed by Your mercy? We’ll see. Amen.
